About this tour

The Dominican Republic is the Caribbean's most visited destination (3.3 million tourists in 2024) and arguably its best value property market for international buyers. Las Terrenas on the Samaná Peninsula has emerged as the most compelling destination within the DR for European and North American buyers — a bohemian beach town with a large French and Italian expatriate community, excellent French-language schools, and properties that are 40–60% cheaper than equivalent Barbados or Cayman product.

This five-day tour focuses on the Samaná Peninsula — the DR's most scenically dramatic and tourist-independent region — with one day in the north coast resort zone for comparison.

Your tour guide
Andrés Comprés
Founder, Samaná Properties · Las Terrenas

Andrés was born in Santo Domingo and moved to Las Terrenas in 2009 when he saw the early-stage Samaná wave forming. He built Samaná Properties as the peninsula's only dedicated international buyer advisory, with a particular focus on CONFOTUR-eligible properties that offer foreign investors significant tax advantages. His firm completed 34 transactions in Las Terrenas in 2024.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 — Wednesday 10 Mar
Arrivals in Las Terrenas

Arrive El Catey International Airport, Samaná. Private transfer to Las Terrenas (40 min). Welcome dinner at El Limon restaurant with guide Andrés Comprés — introduction to the DR market, Samaná's positioning, and why Las Terrenas is different from other DR destinations.

Day 2 — Thursday 11 Mar
Las Terrenas Beach & Village

Three viewings in and around Las Terrenas: a 3-bed villa 200m from Playa Las Terrenas (USD 340k, freehold); a 2-bed apartment in a gated complex with pool (USD 180k, rental income data provided); and an off-plan boutique development of 8 villas (from USD 220k, developer with 2 completed DR projects).

Day 3 — Friday 12 Mar
Samaná Peninsula Drive

Scenic drive to the eastern tip of the peninsula — Rincón Beach (voted one of the top 10 Caribbean beaches by Lonely Planet). Two remote land parcels available for eco-resort development. Whale-watching option (January–March is humpback season). Evening: Pescadería dinner in the village.

Day 4 — Saturday 13 Mar
Cabarete North Coast Comparison

Drive to Cabarete (2.5 hours) — the north coast's established tourist and kite-surfing town. Two properties for comparison: what USD 340k buys in Cabarete vs Las Terrenas. Honest discussion of north coast vs Samaná with Andrés. Return to Las Terrenas via Sosúa viewpoint.

Day 5 — Sunday 14 Mar
Legal Session & Departures

DR property law: Law 158-01 (tax incentives for tourism development — CONFOTUR exemptions of up to 10 years), ITBIS purchase tax, and foreign ownership rights (unrestricted). One-on-one with Andrés for interested buyers. Afternoon departures.

What past attendees say

I came sceptical and left with a signed reservation. The local partner knew every corner of the market — including deals that never reach the portals.

R.M. · London

Six viewings in four days, all pre-vetted. No time-share pressure, no developer sales rooms. Just real properties with honest pricing.

P. & A. Chen · Singapore

The group dynamic surprised me — twelve serious buyers comparing notes creates a remarkably useful signal on what's genuinely worth pursuing.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before reserving your seat.

Do I need a visa for this destination?+

Visa requirements depend on your passport. We send pre-departure guidance with current entry rules to all confirmed attendees. Most destinations offer visa-on-arrival or e-visa for major passport holders.

What happens to my deposit if I change my mind?+

Your deposit is fully refundable up to 8 weeks before departure, no questions asked. After that, we work with you to defer your place to a future tour in the same region.

Can solo travellers join?+

Absolutely — around a third of our attendees travel solo. Tours are structured around property viewings and expert sessions, not couples activities. Solo travellers consistently tell us it's a highlight of the experience.

Are properties developer-pushed, or genuinely curated?+

We are strictly buyer-side. No developer pays to have their property on our itinerary. Every viewing has been independently sourced and pre-vetted by our local partner for title, planning status, and realistic pricing.

How are flights and hotels handled?+

Flights are booked independently — we send a preferred routing guide 8 weeks before departure. Ground transport, accommodation during viewings, and curated meals are all included in the tour price.
