Populaire is the Bali based division of Indonesian construction group Graha Utama founded in 1974 by Harjanto Chandra. The group rapidly expanded in the then developing suburbs of East Surabaya and the real estate boom in the region saw Graha Utama securing a significant market base in the areas of Dharmahusada, Manyar Tompotika, Margorejo and Kertajaya. In the 90s rapid expansion of luxury residential developments in Surabaya’s western districts also saw Graha Utama securing a significant market base in Bukit Darmo, Citraland and Pakuwon developments. In their more than three decade of operating history, the company has built over 700 homes and is today widely regarded as one of most experienced builders in the region.

Last year, Populaire completed a 1,800 square meter luxury Joglo-styled estate not more than 500 meters down the coastline of Bali. The property is a unique combination of Javanese architecture weaved into contemporary living spaces.

Currently Populaire is developing two projects – one in Seminyak and the other in Jimbaran. This will be Populaire’s second project in Seminyak, which is considered as the most exclusive address in Bali. Site works has already commenced in this project and its architectural team headed by Beny Sahbana has already started work in designing this ultra luxury three bedroom boutique villa. The villa will consist of two detached structures separated by a generously sized lap pool, each courting generous living spaces. With all living areas and the guest suite skirting the sides of the lap pool, guests are presented with a scene that would have them believe they were floating on water. Combining the true elements of Bali living, this project reflects the true Bali lifestyle dream shared by millions. In Bukit, Jimbaran, Populaire is currently engaged in another villa project which is primarily an extension project that includes a suspended 58 foot lap pool, a kids splash pool, a massive suspended outdoor entertainment terrace and over 1,800 square feet of new indoor space. The company terms this project as not just a home extension, but a complete transformation, with many of the indoor areas of the existing structure also having extensive works which will be undertaken by its team.

Meanwhile, Populaire is also currently engaged in designing and building two luxury villas near Bali’s Brawa Beach. The villas are being built taking into consideration the requirements of both tourists and property investors in mind. These two villas are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

In addition to Populaire’s exclusive design portfolio for custom builds, the group’s team of architects has successfully put to reality some of the best design series. The series of designs the company has worked on include:

The el-tropo Series, which is inspired by rich ethnic traditions and the natural materials prevalent in the region; the Minimo Series, which represents perfect refinement of several modern concepts; and the Premiere Series which is reminiscent of tropical modern lifestyle.
